The annual March Golf Club Mixed Open was played on Sunday 14th October over just 9 holes due to the heavy rain. Great spirit was shown by all players and a super time was had by all in the clubhouse afterwards. Gina Cameron from Ramsey birdied her final hole to get a vital 3 points to see her and husband Hugh win on the last 6 holes from home couple Mark Athow and Emma Norman with both pairs scoring 20 points. Third was Malcolm and Nikki Stead from Tydd with 16 points.

Captains Day on 22nd September was very well supported with Men and ladies taking part in an individual stableford competition. There were burgers and hot dogs cooked for the players at halfway house along with drinks to keep them going. The weather stayed dry until early afternoon when a few spots of rain appeared but it did not dampen the day. The spirit of comaraderie was evident throughout the day with a great atmosphere. So many people said that they had never seen the car park so full. The results were: Nearest the pin in two on 5th/14th was won by Lewis Hearn who also won the bunker competition.

The annual Selby Taylor Trophy was held on Sunday the 19th August. The competition has been kindly sponsored by Selby Taylor Opticians for the past 11 years and the tophies were presented by the Mayor of March helped Mr Bill and Mr Min Kalsi of Selby Taylor Opticians of March (see photo -Photo left to right Jonathan King, Tina Roberts, Bill Kalsi , Min Kalsi (Selby Taylor) and Madam Mayor Jan French)

As many of you are aware I have been away from the Club for some time. My daughter Michelle had been on the Liver transplant register for a while and was called into Kings College Hospital London for a transplant. This was carried out on 24th May, unfortunately after only a few hours this was rejected by her body and a further transplant was carried out. Michelle was in an induced coma for just over five weeks. During this period she had a further four major operations to save her life. On Saturday 30th June she lost the fight for her life (she was only 37). I would like to thank the many members who have messaged, phoned or sent to Sandra and myself cards of Condolence. Your thoughts are very much appreciated. I would like to make special mention of our Vice Captain Alan Jones for the way he has taken over and carried the club forward. (I will reciprocate next year I promise), I would also like to thank the members who have helped Alan by volunteering to play in our club matches and keeping our good name within the area for fulfilling our fixtures. I am wanting very much to return to playing and being amongst you all as soon as I feel able.

In windy and difficult conditions the weekend proved more than a match for most golfers competing in March Golf Clubs Men's club championship. Saturday was the qualifying round with those who survived the tough conditions going forward to play in the final round on Sunday. Sundays tricky pin positions once again testing everybody's patience and golfing skills. Club champion of the year was once again Gary Neugabauer who survived a very spirited challenge from Lewis Hearn to pip him to the title by one shot. Lewis's consolation was that he deservedly and comfortably won the Club's Handicap Championship playing both days under his handicap.
