Captain (Ivan Roberts) and Vice Captain (Mick Russell) held a head to head challenge match on Armistice Day  which was the last official club event before handing over the Captaincy at the AGM on 16th December 2017. Teams of 6 pairs gathered in very good conditions for brunch at 10.30am and they all observed a 2 minute silence for Armistice Day followed by first tee time of 11.30am.  The match was a very close contest which resulted in a very amicable draw.

The annual ladies AGM & Presentation Evening took place on Wednesday 1st November 2017 at 7pm at March Golf Club.  The outgoing Lady Captain, Fiona Wood completed her duties for the year chairing the AGM and presenting the prizes for the year.  She had enjoyed her time as Lady Captain and found it very rewarding, she thanked her fellow lady members for all their support and help and announced that throughout the year in excess of £4,000 had been raised for her charity MIND which included a fine dining event at the golf club that was a huge success.  She then went on the present the prizes to the winners for 2017.

The cheque was presented to Fiona Wood by Brian Caddy, who said: “We are very pleased to support Fiona in supporting CPSL MIND at a time when mental health awareness is so important and specialist charities like MIND are providing vital services which greatly assist the NHS."
March Golf Club Ladies’ Captain Fiona Wood receives £500 from Brian Caddy of Lookout Call. Zoe Doherty from Mind was also in attendance as Mind are Fiona’s chosen charity for the year and the donation will be added to existing funds raised by Fine Dining Evening, Coffee morning , the anticipated final donation will be in excess of £4000.

It was a blustery but dry day on Sunday 1st October for March to hold its annual mixed open which was well supported with pairs from numerous Golf Courses as well as pairs from March Golf Club.

The winners who were regulars to the competition, Mike & Dawn Robinson from Ramsey, won with 39 points. Closely followed by Zhanna Tarosko & her partner William Selfe from Bourn with 37 points.

Monday 4th September saw a visit to March Golf Club by several Japanese academics who were visiting March, hosted by Vice-Chairman Malcolm George they enjoyed coffee & biscuits at the club follwed by an introduction to golf lesson kindly provided by our Resident Professional Alex Oldham. Our visitors very much enjoyed the experience and most succeeded in getting the ball airborne with at least one of the party intent on taking golf further on his return to Japan

The Ladies played their last friendly game of the season against and at Thorney Lakes on Wednesday 20th September. Although windy (and with quite a cold to start), the sun came out and a good game was had by all. Three pairs represented March and the overall result was lost one and halved two matches. The photograph shows the team of Lady Captain Fiona Wood, Penny Gilbert, Pam Hawes and at the back, Sandra Russell, Jo Rowlett and Carolyn Morton.

Ladies' Medal:

The last but one Ladies Medal of the year took place on Tuesday 19th September, which was a lovely day.

Sarah Oldham continued to play well following the Cambs and Hunts autumn foursomes by coming third, with a nett score of 77, and second was Tina Roberts with a nett 76. Sandra Russell was the winner with a nett 72.

Cambs & Hunts County Autumn Foursomes was held at March Golf Club on Wednesday 13th September.  Twenty eight players took part over 36 holes.  The day started with Club Captain Ivan Roberts seeing all the players off the first tee and weather conditions were rather tough with winds of approx 65mph.

After 18 holes the players came in for some much needed lunch of sandwiches and chips ready to start again another 18 holes.  The players had only been going a few holes when the heavens opened and this made the conditions very tricky.  However, fortunately it did not last long and the rain cleared.  There were some spectaular moments one being Sarah Oldham (March Golf Club) chipped out of a green side bunker only to hole out for a 2 and scoring 3pts for her team. To see further details and photographs, click on "Read More".

Following a heavy downpour in the early hours of the morning, the early players just about got away in dry weather. A total of 77 players took part and it was most unfortunate that the heavens once again opened when the ladies took to the course - Ivan apologised that this was one element of the day that he had no control over. The men's event was won by Simon Moore with 38 points with Lewis Hearn and Gary Neugebauer coming in close 2nd's with 37 points each.

After two very hot and humid days the Club Championships came to a conclusion on the afternoon of Sunday 17th June. Following a blistering net 64 on the Saturday, Gary Brinn fought hard to keep his lead throughout to become Handicap Champion with a 36 hole total of 138.  Ray Pescud had a good day 2 (net 69) to finish runner up and Brian Newstead came in a credible 3rd.
The Club Champion is deservedly Gary Neugebauer who completed his two rounds on a score of 155 and finishing well ahead of Ivan Roberts 2nd and Stan Dunn 3rd.  Congratulations to both Gary Neugebauer and Gary Brinn on their individual victories. Well done!!
